Downtown On A Thursday Night!

Last night we took my friend, Jana, to the train station. She was trying to save money going home, so she found that the train was the cheapest way to travel. When we got there, we found out that instead of the train leaving at 6:30pm it wasn't set to arrive until 9:10pm and that was at best. So, since we had some time to kill, we decided to make the best of it and venture around downtown. We actually had fun doing things on a whim and it was a great evening to be downtown. I used Dan's camera phone to capture some pictures.

This was not the train that she was going to be on, but I had to include it anyway, because if it wasn't for her train being late, we couldn't have done the things below:

Like find a mini fountain right next to the place that we got yogurt!

So, this is pretty much the last thing that we did before we went back to the train station. There was nothing around saying that we were prohibited from splashing in the water, and once Joshua saw it, I knew we had to let him do it. He had a blast! Perfectly normal, right?

This is were we got yogurt, which is next to the water feature above! They have yummy, yummy yogurt! So many different flavors and toppings!

Before the yogurt and the water fun, we ate at The Hula Hut, a restaurant right on Lake Austin. This is Joshua trying to smile like the Tiki Man.

Water feature turned mini splash pad!

Perfect thing to entertain Joshua with...WATER!!!!

Hula Hut on Lake Austin

It turned out to be a great evening, full of fun and exciting things! Jana finally was able to board the train after several other mishaps on Amtrak's side. She made it safe and sound, but she told me she will never ride another train again! I told her that if it wasn't for her wanting to ride a train home, we would have not have got to enjoy an evening downtown!

HOPE EVERYONE HAS A SAFE AND HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!!

First Pool Party

Joshua went to another birthday party this past Sunday, only this time it was a pool party. There were 17 kids there and a pool and backyard that looked like it should be featured on MTV Cribs. When we got there we had no idea it was a pool party. It was never mentioned on the invitation, so we came with just a present and no swim suit. The mom answered the door and said, "come on in, the kids are getting their sunscreen on and are about to jump in." Awesome! My heart sunk a little, because I know how much Joshua loves the water and I know that when he saw his friends swimming he would want to go too. So, Dan and I decided that if he chose to go swimming, we would let him swim in his clothes, because I always carry a change of clothes for him. Great, problem solved! Joshua was watching the kids splash around in the pool through the fence and I asked if he wanted to go and he said no at first, but quickly changed his mind. The birthday boy's mom came over and started talking to Joshua about swimming and she said go get your suit and get in. I informed her that I was not aware that it was a pool party, so I didn't bring him a swimsuit. Long story short, she went inside and out she came with a swimsuit, a swim shirt, and a towel. Thank goodness she has 3 little boys around Joshua's age! After some sunscreen and some arm floaties(because it was the next best thing to the ring) he was in the pool splashin' around. Since Dan and I were not able to get in the pool, due to the lack of bathing suits, we threatened Joshua not to leave the steps or the shallow end. Of course, he did try to test us once or twice, but after telling him he would have to get out and stay out he opted to obey(good decision). I was so nervous the whole time he was in there, because even though we were right on the side where he was it still was scary knowing that he was in there "by himself". He kept telling us, "I can swim" and then would dunk his head under water. While I am so glad we gave him swim lessons from the age of 6 months, I think he is a little over cofident when it comes to the water. So, my purpose of putting him in swim lessons so young is now starting to kind of back fire a little. It's ok, we will just have to remind him that he still needs to "respect" the water and review water safety rules. Joshua L-O-V-E-D swimming so much that he did not want to get out when it was time to eat or have cupcakes. Wow, not even cupcakes and singing "Happy Birthday"(which is his favorite song) could get him out. We finally convinced (bribed) him to get out of the pool. He had so much fun swimming with all his little friends. It was a great first pool party. I have pictures below that were taken with my phone. He looks so cute in water wings!

Our Busy Weekend

We had a busy weekend! Joshua went to his first non-family birthday party! At first, he didn't know what to think. There was so much to do that I think he got a little overwhelmed. When his friend, Andrew showed up, he got a little more comfortable and ventured away from our side. It was so cute because when Joshua showed up, Anna(the birthday girl) came up and said, "It's Joshua!" and gave him a big hug. It was adorable! They had a curious George pinata and the kids loved taking turns hitting it. Eventually, Anna's mom had to rip the pinata open for the candy to fall out! George is one tough monkey(ha!). While Joshua was there, I think he found a new love...the trampoline. It was a small one that had a bar to hold on to, kind of like an exercise one, but for kids. He jumped and jumped on that trampoline. The picture, right below is him trying to hit the pinata! He hit it pretty much every time! He didn't really care about the candy; he just wanted a chance to swing the bat! (Future baseball player, perhaps?)

Tired party goer! He took a long 3 hr nap and would have kept on sleeping if we didn't wake him up! He was recharged and ready to go, because we had my brother and sister in law over with the girls to watch a movie and play the game CLUE! It was fun and Joshua loved running around and playing with his cousins!

On Sunday, we thought we would have a lazy day at home, but around 12:30 my brother called and invited us to go to the park with them and another family. It was a beautiful day, so we thought why not. We loaded up the cooler with drinks and snacks and headed to the park. Joshua usually takes a nap around 1:00 or 1:30, so he was in a mood, but once we got to the park and he saw his cousins, he was ready to go. The boy played and played and played! He took alot of breaks, because he was so tired, but would not sit down for long. We left about 5 that evening. Yes, we were there for about 4 hrs, but it was a beautiful day and we would have been doing the same thing at home. We had a busy, but great weekend!

The park makes him happy

and dirty from head to toe! Literally!!!

On his way to dream land...

...and he's out! This happened about 2 mins after the above picture was taken.

A happy, dirty, tired boy makes for a great day!!

No Rhyme or Reason

There is really no rhyme or Reason to this post other than the fact that this boy looks so cute with his baseball hat turned backwards. He was in his room and came running out with a baseball cap turned backwards and would not take it off. He never wants to wear the hats that he has, not even for hat day at school. He found his way into the backyard and Dan took these pictures with his phone while Joshua was running around and playing. He goes without pants most days when we are at home because of the whole potty training thing.

Some funny things: Joshua has started sighing really loud when he gets upset, it is almost like a growl of frustration. It is so funny to listen to him do that. We try not to laugh, because he is genuinely upset, but it just sounds funny coming from a three year old.

Example: Me: Joshua it is time to come inside. Joshua: I JUST HAVE TO PLAY,MOMMA! UGGHHH(think big sigh/growl here). We hear this alot!

The other night we were at the dinner table and I had made Joshua's favorite thing, spaghetti! As he was eating it or should I say shoveling it in his mouth he kept saying, "this is sooo good! this is sooo good!

LOVE THIS KID!

Kiddie Acres

Joshua went to a little place called Kiddie Acres last weekend and surprised us all with his bravery. Kiddie Acres is a kind of like a mini carnival. It has been in Austin forever! Anyone that has lived in Austin long enough knows where and what Kiddie Acres is. We had not taken Joshua there before because we didn't think he was old enough to really enjoy it and to tell you the truth I thought even him being 3 was going to be still too young, but he really had a great time. He rode every ride they had to offer with the exception of the real ponies that were there. He loved to look at them, but didn't want to ride them. When he got on the carousel he was a little unsure, but then a smile broke out and he loved it. He rode the boats, the cars, the planes, a train and even went in the Ferris wheel without any adult. My nieces were with him, but I expected him to start freaking out once he realized it was going to go up high. He loved it though, so much that he rode it twice along with the cars. I think his first experience to Kiddie Acres was a great success. I posted a bunch of pictures below for you to enjoy!

There was a mister at the exit so you could cool off and of course Joshua found it very quickly!

Chillin' in the blue car that goes "real fast!"

So surprised to see a smile on his face instead of tears! Sometimes, this kid has no fear!

The ride that started all the fun!
