Joshua Sees The Dentist

Joshua took his very first trip to the dentist today! He was excited to go until I made the mistake of saying doctor and that was all it took. He went from happy to freaked out! He was fine in the waiting room, but once we went back to one of the rooms he went into total meltdown mode! Poor guy, I did feel bad for him, because even though we talked about what would happen at the dentist it still didn't help once they put the film strips in his mouth and put a weird looking camera up to his cheek! The staff was very nice and sensitive to Joshua and his feelings. I personally think he stepped it up a little but I know it was still traumatizing. He made it through the x-rays and right when I had him calmed down, they had to redo one of the x-rays. Ugh! Needless to say meltdown number 2 came on fast! He refused to sit in the chair when the dentist was trying to look at his teeth, so he had to sit in my lap and lay his head in the dentist lap so she could look at his teeth(meltdown number 3)! She actually cleaned his teeth and put some kind of liquid vitamin on them. I am happy to report that in the end the dentist said he had great teeth and gums and for us to keep up the good work. He left with a balloon in one hand and a goodie bag in the other hand sans smile. Oh well, you never know what you are going to get with Joshua. I wonder what's in store for our trip to the pediatrician next week! Yikes!

All he did here was sit down!

He would not let go of my hand!

Still Trying

Joshua is still learning how to dress himself unassisted. Every Thursday at school is "splash day", so they change clothes when they are done. Each kid is in charge of getting themselves dressed. The past 2 Thursdays when I came to pick him up his shirt and pants were on backwards. His teacher said she didn't want to discourage him from getting dressed so she left it like that. Lol. Funny thing about this is that even though the shirt and shorts were backwards his shoes were actually on the right feet and his underwear was correct as well. Funny! He is definitely getting the hang of dressing himself, which I am thankful for, so we will take it one step at a time...we will work on wearing the clothes the correct way soon, for now this works for me! Lol

The sharks should be in front and you can see the pockets on the shorts, those should be in front.

The shoes are in the right feet though. Baby steps!

The Fourth of July

Our 4th of July was pretty low key. We hung around the house and grilled and then later that evening we met my brother and sister n law at a local park to watch some fireworks. The park had a bunch of booths and rides for the kids as well. We left a little early because the fireworks were hurting Joshua's ears, but he did really well. Once we were in the car he was able to enjoy them a little more. It was a pretty good day!

Future Olympic Diver

On Sunday we were watching the Olympic Trials and diving was on. Joshua was fascinated by the dark blue water. He asked several questions about what was going on. He sat there quietly and then shouted, " I want to do that!" we told him if he wanted to dive he certainly could. He just smiled and kept reacting to all the dives. The divers did a bunch of back flips and front flips and Joshua would respond with "cool!" and "yay!" He decided he should start practicing, so he used the ottoman as his platform and jumped off and would pretend to go under water and swim to the side. I think we need to work on the swimming part first, but this kid was ready to dive! Sorry the pics are blurry, but he was moving all around. Who knows maybe one day we will all see Joshua at the Olympic trials!!!

Joshua

I thought I would jot down a few things about Joshua. He will be 4 1/2 on the 14th of June. I can't believe he is going to be 5 this year! I asked Joshua some questions and here are the answers he gave:

-Blue and rainbow

How old are you?
-I'll be 5 on my burfday(birthday)
How are you right now?
-4( holds up 4 fingers)

What do you like to eat?
-chicken nuggets, hamburgers and broccoli

What do you like to drink?
- chocolate milk and red juice(crystal light fruit punch)

What do you like to do outside?
- blow bubbles, and swing and chase birds

What happens when You throw Milo the frisbee?
-Milo runs and I chase him

When it is getting dark outside what does daddy do?
-turn on the fire( light the tiki torches)

What is your favorite thing to sleep with?
- My blankies

What's your favorite number?
- 2, like Edward ( the train)

Do you like to be covered up?
- No! No covers for me.

Joshua has become very chatty thanks to his speech therapy. He talks all the time and sometimes he says the funniest things. "daddy, me and you are family!" on the way to the eye doctor: " mommy your eyes hurt?"

Joshua's new found "loves": Nemo, getting himself dressed, outer space and rockets, picture bingo, reading books to himself in bed, watering the plants, and telling knock, knock jokes.

Memorial Weekend

We went to my Mom and Joel's house for the long holiday weekend. We try to see everyone as much as possible but we can pretty much guarantee we will get see everyone over this long weekend. We do our other big get together over labor day usually. This year we decided to bring out our competitive spirits and have a battle of the sexes!! If you know are family, you know that we each competitive in our own way, and it can get a little crazy! We had shirts made( thank you Krystal) and even had team names! Womanators vs Eliminators. We played 6 games total and it was a blast. The Eliminators won overall, but the Womanators are good sports, so we let them gloat over their victory and we will get them next year!!! We did alot of swimming and relaxing and of course eating! We also had a crawfish boil which is tradition and we all look forward to that. I know you want to see this pictures, so I will stop typing, but I do want to say that I am so blessed to have such a great family. We have our ups and downs like any other family, but we are all here for each other no matter what. We love to hang out together and never get tired of each other. So here you go, pictures. Enjoy!

This picture cracks me up! The guys cut their sleeves off their shirts
And used them as dew rags. This is Josh showing off his "guns"!
